Intro[]

Mitzie: Hello, Everyone! And welcome to yet another installment of... character Reviews! I know we usually do a review on Saturdays. But honestly, this one was different. As we did see the episodes, but weren’t really sure how to... elaborate on it that’s much. Saving Face was just a fun episode with Ronnie’s favorite wrestler, and Matters of a Kart was a good Carl episode he learns a lesson in. Though not the best one. So this time, we are actually doing a back to back review thing this week! I will be reviewing something today, while Lacey will be doing a review later this week! Not sure exactly what day, but yeah. Anyways, I realize it’s been a while since I have gone Andy reviewed an episode of SpongeBob. Or... anyone. I do remember that Don’t Feed the Clowns review back then. So I will be doing something different. Honestly, I’ve been wanting to review this particular SpongeBob episode the whole year basically, but I just wasn’t sure when I will get around to doing it. But now, I have my chance! This review will Ben of one of my favorite SpongeBob episodes... Shell Games! It’s about a turtle who has been living in Patrick’s rock! That’s right, Patrick’s rock was a turtle shell the whole time! For the whole 20 years! Crazy, I know! So how did this shocking turn of events turn out? Well, let’s go and find out!

Episode Analysis[]

Mitzie: So this episode begins with this turtle without his shell waking up. He basically goes through with getting ready for the day. He... well, briefly uses his weights, actually eats breakfast out of a can, and brushes his teeth. Tony’s look actually causes a mirror to break. Not wanting to see... I guess his friends like this, he goes out to do something. And it turns out that the rock is actually a shell the whole time! Pretty shocking there! After we see a cheering Squidward that Patrick’s house is seemingly moving out, we see Patrick basically trying to get through HIS day! Brushing his teeth, and I guess he like, attempts to crack open a nut. So he eventually finds that he just so happens to be on Tony’s shell! Tony finds out, and tries to get Patrick off of his shell. But Patrick does not wanna get out as it is also his rock. So we see Tony going to get himself cleaned up, and has to tag Patrick along as he had glued himself to it. They go to this... spa place I guess? Patrick is not getting out of That’s. And when Tony goes to get a nicer look, Patrick ends up getting brushed as well. Turns out Tont was asleep for about 30 years! So they then go to the beach, where tont meet starts up with those two girl turtles. But they end up admiring Patrick as the “parasite” giving him cookies and what not. Tony brings Patrick into his shell, and Patrick ends up beginning to mess with the place. Frying some records, taking down posters, and this ends up leading to pretty much a turf war! Which leads to the shell breaking to pieces! The two make up, and use Squidward’s house as the new shell!

Review[]

Mitzie: Well, Now That we got that all out of the way, time for my thought on the episode. I did briefly say this in the intro of this review, I think this may be my favorite episode of SpongeBob season 12. And it was enjoyable to watch! After SpongeBob has been around for 20 years, it definitely is a total shock! A real... shell shock! Get it? Anyways, this episode actually had me thinking... remember the Simpsons episode, The Principal and the Pauper from early season 9 when Principal Seymour Skinner turns out to NOT be Skinner? And is an imposter named Armin Tanzanian? And the REAL Skinner wasn’t some General he thought died the whole time? Yeah, I remember the writers pretty much messed with the Simpsons past there. All those Skinner episodes the past 8 years, and now they expect us to believe that this is true. And that the iconic Skinner was not who he was the whole time. I remember people considered it completely jumping the shark. I myself saw the episode, and despite the COMPLETE lack of respect for the audience, it was alright. It had some funny moments, but I do remember being shocked at this Skinner reveal, and found it quite jarring. Here, in this SpongeBob episode, the shell we knew Patrick had for the past 20 years is a turtle shell, the ENTIRE TIME! So if The Principal and the Pauper turned out to be a jumping the shark episode, what makes Shell Shock a different case for me? Like, what makes this my favorite despite the shell thing not really having a build up in the show like what happened in that Simpsons episode? Well, for one thing... I found the set up of Shell Games to be done better. With this turtle being inside this house, and gets out of the brown rock we know of as Patrick’s rock. And it later does reveal that Tony has been asleep for 30 years. So with it being moved and not cleaned for THAT long, of course the shell is gonna get a lot of crud on it! Sure you can argue that Appointments TV had these differently rocks, burn I like to think that Patrick changed his mind and went with the original one. And turtles do live for a very long time, so it makes sense. I mean, look at Crush from Finding Nemo! He was 150 years old! And still young! Another thing I honestly really liked Moreno than that Simpsons episode, is that it’s just a lot more entertaining here’s. I like the interaction between Patrick and Tony, and how they end up ducking it out, especially at that ending fight scene was really fun to watch! And hey, even though Tony did have to take Squidward’s house, Patrick can still see these other rock/shells from appointments TV! I honestly hope we see Tont again sometimes. Oh well. I like how they make up a time the end. Any critiques? We’ll... the pacing was a little slow. Mostly with Tony getting his day ready. But honestly, it’s a minor thing. Also, what’s even is that muck on the shell anyways? That’s genuine question, I wanna know. Anyways, this episode, for revealing something shocking, does do a much better job at it’s story than The Principal and the Pauper. And to be fair, this revelations in the SB episode honestly does work better. Even though we never saw how the shell even got there, I think enough questions were answered where I can forgive it. Aa I still love it!

9/10

Outtro[]

mitzie: Well, that will be it for today’s review on the SpongeBob episode, Shell Games! I know SpongeBob has been... dipping in quality to put it lightly in the mid season’s, but I’m glad it’s able to bounce back once we started to get to like the second half of season 9! So Lacey is going to be reviewing another episode tomorrow. Spoilers, it actually will not be a SpongeBob episode. What will this review be? Well, guess you will have to find out tomorrow! Until then, peace out!
